Being a parent includes making some really tough decisions from time to time that your children might not appreciate right away. In fact, they might hold it against you for a long time and only realize that you were right years later. Well, one user on Reddit decided to find out just how frequently that happens. He asked the people of Reddit to remember some pieces of advice that their parents gave them and that eventually turned out to be completely true. It resulted in little over 11,500 replies on the post. Here are just a couple of comments that really caught our eye.
“My Parents Were Right!”
One user recalled the time when he lost his retainer and was afraid to tell his parents. He didn’t realize at the time that whenever they warned him about wearing it, they were thinking about his future. Because of that, his teeth are crooked now and needs to spend at least $4,000 to fix them. This also reminded other people of quite similar situations as they all started to reminisce.
Another user remembered his parents’ lesson about saving. They warned him about how life was expensive but he didn’t realize it because he was still young and living with them. It was only after he moved out that he realized they were actually right all along. These are the things you can never know until you start living on your own.
A lot of people also mentioned the power of the mother‘s intuition when it came to their potential partners. It seems that their parents warned them about them but they wouldn’t listen. Some of them turned out to be extremely abusive and unpleasant. It just goes to show that you should never discard your parents’ advice because they might just end up being right.
