When Jena Kunkel went to the hospital for labor, she didn’t expect that she would come out with more than just her baby girl.
“I actually had told them that I needed to see the anesthesiologist again because the pain was just completely unbearable at that point.” Jena recalled.
But when the new anesthesiologist came in, she realized that it was none other than her husband, U.S. Army Soldier Joseph Kunkel.
Joseph had plans to surprise his wife before the birth of their baby girl. However, his plans were almost foiled by an unfortunate travel incident.
“I had a ticket to go from Lawton to Dallas to Baltimore; and when I got to the Lawton Airport, they canceled my flight,” Joseph recounted.
However, another soldier offered to drive him to Dallas so he could catch another flight. And while that was also delayed, he managed to get home exactly in time for the delivery.
After three hours of the surprise, the couple welcomed their baby girl, Ryleigh Mae.
“I fell in love with my baby as soon as I saw her,” Joseph said.
“She was just waiting extra long,” the new mom also added. “I swear she knew that her daddy was coming.”
