Teen Racked Up $54,000 Bar Tab on Dad’s Credit Card in One Night
A 16-year-old Japanese teen decided to take his father’s American Express card for a little night-out in Kyoto, spending roughly $54,000 throughout the course of one night.
The unnamed teen went around hostess bars, spending as much as $3,700 on a bottle of wine.
Fortunately or unfortunately, the judge ruled today that the bar owners, as well as American Express need to pay for the majority of the binge.
According to WebProNews, the court explained that the bars were supposed to cater only to adults, and thus, the owners were responsible for allowing the teen and his friend to enter the premises and purchase copious amounts of alcohol. At the same time, the court added that American Express should have flagged the unusual charges on the dad’s credit card, and was thus also partially responsible for the charges.
As for the dad, he walked away with only a 800,000 yen (around $7,800) bill out of the 5.5 million yen spent by his son.
No word as to what punishment the teen was given (if any!)
