From the infamous Atkins diet to the curious Cookie diet, no craze has escaped American bellies (and pockets for that matter).
Most recently, the “Caveman diet” often dubbed “Paleo” has become the latest fad. Simply put, dieters mimic eating and gathering habits of our Paleolithic ancestors. While the diet certainly cuts down on calories, one cannot help but think if our evolved and balanced eating habits contribute to a longer life expectancy, especially compared to our short-lived predecessors.
Another such craze which has surprisingly stood the test of time is the “Detox” or “Cleansing Diet”. Taking multiple forms of fasting, juicing, and limited food intake, it’s no secret why you start losing weight quickly. However, studies have proven that these diets actually lower your overall metabolic rate, canceling out any lost pounds once you start eating solids (or any food at all). Despite all of this and judging from the diet’s popularity during bikini season, it appears fleeting results trumps science.
Our take: Stop sacrificing! Eating balanced meals, getting the right portions, and just eating right will get you to where you want to be. Check out the video below!
