While selling Girl Scout cookies, a group of scouts managed to foil a thief in his tracks.
The troop set up their booth outside an HEB grocery store in Katy when they noticed a man wheeling out a cart full of loose items.
“He had pushed his cart back into the corner like he was hiding from us,” recalled Mary Matthews, one of the girls’s moms.
The girls then decided to share their suspicions to an HEB employee. Service director Denise Villarreal immediately called police and two men were arrested for trying to steal over $2,000 worth of merchandise.
“We caught the bad guy,” one of the scouts said excitedly.
“We’re just really thankful that somebody was here and honest enough to tell somebody that could actually do something about it,” Villarreal told reporters.
As a surprise thank you to the girls, HEB employees bought boxes of cookies from them. And now, whenever someone comes to the store, a photo of the girls is proudly displayed as a reminder of their good deed.
