Two-year-old Myla has been wary of strangers ever since she was victimized by an attempted kidnapping. Luckily for the little toddler, her dad was there to save the day.
Last Saturday, August 25th at around 9:30pm, Myla and her 4-year-old sister were running around a playground when they were accosted by a random man. The suspect, 55-year-old James Gates grabbed Myla, claimed her as his daughter, and started calling her “Goldilocks”. Myla’s dad Kelly Davis blocked the would-be abductor from taking his daughter, angering Gates and causing a minor scuffle.
Gates quickly fled the scene. However, refusing to let the suspect go, Davis left his kids with his girlfriend Amanda Green and pursued Gates for the next 30 minutes.
After alerting police, Davis caught up to Gates who was later found to have a prior rap sheet — armed robbery and drug possession. To add to that list, he will now face kidnapping and battery charges.
“I have no doubt that if I had my back turned, he would have grabbed her and she would have been gone in the city and I would have never seen her again,” the angry but relieved dad later said.
As for now, Myla is still coping with the trauma, panicking whenever a stranger approaches her and shouting, “Bad man, bad man.”
