A dad from China felt that his son was getting addicted to online video games. To resolve this, he hired a number of in-game assassins to repeatedly destroy his son’s avatar and hopefully stop him from playing.
The father decided to take some action after his 23-year-old son refused to stop playing online games and start finding a job. “Xiao Feng” quit his job at a software development company after working there for 3 months, and has been at home playing computer games since.
Frustrated by his son’s apparent laziness, the dad decided to hire online hitmen to kill his son’s avatar every time he logged on to play.
“There was never any bad blood or animosity between me and them, so I knew there was something strange going on,” Xiao Feng later explained.
After talking to a few online players, Xiao Feng learned of his father’s plotting. Feng later confronted his dad and explained that he was not being idle and simply wanted to take time to find a job that he loved.
Feng’s dad’s extreme actions are not unique in China where parents have sent their kids to video game and internet addition treatment centers staffed by soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army.
