5-Year-Old Takes on Westboro with Lemonade; Raised Over $16,000
5-year-old Jayden Sink decided to set up a lemonade stand across from the Westboro Baptist Church. Her goal? The little girl wanted to sell “Pink Lemonade for Peace”, raising over $16,000 for her cause.
Little Jayden, with the help of her dad, set up her stand outside the rainbow-painted Equality House and across from the infamous Westboro Church. News of the lemonade stand went viral and the little girl received $170 in cash and over $10,000 in online donations through Crowdrise. The money will go towards a non-profit called Planting Peace, the same organization who set up the Equality House.
Unfortunately, not everyone was thrilled, as supporters of the Church shouted insults and profanities to Jayden and her customers.
“They were standing in the front yard … and were visibly aggravated,” the owner of the Equality House, Aaron Jackson recounted.
The Church also tweeted, “*WHO* let nasty f–s get hands on this poor child? #danger.”
Luckily, the little girl was unfazed. “She was such a sweetheart,” Equality House resident Davis Hammet said. “She was right in front of this hate group. She was unfazed and unafraid, and they are so very vile and rude to people.
Yesterday, the Church also added an anti-gay message on their marquee, reading: “FAGS & ENABLERS ALL BURN IN HELL LEMONADE WON’T COOL ANY TONGUES.”
