Dylan McCoy, a 3 year old from Ohio was playing outside his house when the rotting plywood collapsed beneath his feet. Unfortunately for him, he plunged into a 40 feet deep well that had over 10 feet of water.
Dylan’s father, Jake McCoy heard his son’s fall and sprung into action. When lowering the ladder didn’t work, he quickly climbed down the well’s antiquated walls. ‘I just told Dylan to calm down. I told him it’s going to be all right, that daddy’s coming, stop crying, it’s going to be okay,’ the 28 year old father told reporters.
Lucky for them, while all this was happening, 3 year old Dylan managed to stay afloat using everything he learned from his swimming lessons.
Once Jake reached Dylan, both father and son were stuck in the bottom of the well. Firefighters soon arrived and lowered a rope that they used to lift Dylan while Jake climbed out on his own.
Jake was immensely relieved that his son was safe in his arms. ‘It’s amazing what you can do if your son or your daughter is strapped in a well, screaming your name. You’d pretty much do anything.’
It takes only a quick-thinking parent and a small investment in swimming lessons to save the day!
