After receiving a petition from a 13-year-old girl from New Jersey, Hasbro has now announced that they will be releasing a gender-neutral Easy Bake Oven.
McKenna Pope, 13 was trying to buy an Easy-Bake for her little 4-year-old brother Gavyn Boscio. Unfortunately, she realized that the ovens were marketed solely to girls and only came in purple and pink.
Outraged, the teen decided to create an online petition to create a more gender-neutral product for both boys and girls. Since putting up her petition on Change.org, Pope has gotten over 40,000 signatures, as well as the support of celebrity chefs including Bobby Flay.
Luckily for Pope and all the rising male chefs out there, Hasbro listened. The company invited McKenna and her family to their headquarters to show-off their new prototype and design for the Easy-Bake oven.
“I think that they really met most or even all of what I wanted them to do, and they really amazed me,” Pope said excitedly.
And now after 18 months of work, Hasbro is ready to release their new product. The new design will launch as part of Hasbro’s display at the Toy Fair in New York this February.
